2025 Canadian Touch Rugby Nationals Recap

Touch Canada hosted its first-ever Nationals in Colwood, BC on June 28 and 29, welcoming 10 teams from across Canada and the US.

The event took place at Juan de Fuca Recreation Centre and featured high-level touch rugby with a mix of emerging talent and experienced internationals.  Portland took the title with a win over Samurai in the final. Toronto finished third after a strong weekend.

The tournament reflected the sport’s rapid growth in Canada, following the national program’s return to the 2024 Touch World Cup, its first appearance since 1988.

Fans enjoyed off-field activities like the Goose Step Challenge, won by Alan Ouya and Em Crowe. Special shout-out to Touch Canada President Daryl Conneely for his crowd-pleasing performance.

For the first time, the event was live streamed. All matches are now available to watch on the Touch Canada YouTube channel.

A full-time referee team of 18 officials from Canada and the US supported the tournament. Highlights included a Level 1 course led by Jay Alston, three new Level 1 upgrades, and MVRs awarded to Damien Pym and Sonia Kung. Finals were officiated by Rachael Ogilvie-Harris, Jay Alston, and Jon Baron.
